Сurator – Anton Tkachenko:
“The exhibition takes place in my great-grandmother’s apartment. In my opinion, something similar should have been done many years ago, when her things were still here, and authentic interiors have been preserved. But I decided to realize the idea only now.
I remember Musya, but not as I would like to, I remember what she looked like, I remember her voice, but I do not remember anything about her personal qualities – only memories of them came to me through the stories of my family. Extremely strong and willful woman, not because she wanted to be strong, but under the circumstances. If such a person lives in our time, she would definitely collect contemporary art.
Not the art you could see in the white cube, not the museum-recognized art, but the art that is being created now, the art that still has traces of the artist’s life, which has not lost its context and has not stuck in the encyclopedia vacuum.
Although I may be wrong. The fact that I try to give a person traits that are most likely were not inherent to her, based only on my own imagination, does not make this exhibition a real family gathering? The way we try to convince ourselves that we are expected at home, that our families are the people who support us even when they do not understand our art. That our traditions are something valuable. That our memories of our relatives are real. That we have not lost something that we have carried through the years and generations.
Most likely, Musya is not happy with such thoughts but still supports contemporary art as a real cultural figure”.
