“Prehistoric Times” is a collection of works that have survived to this day and were created between 1989 and 1994. Eugene works with images from science fiction, mixing them with Greek myths, Norwegian legends. On this basis, he constructs his own worlds.
In the artist’s works, the influence of Salvador Dali and Yuri Raksha is clearly traced, which creates an interesting mix of the Soviet school and European themes, and given the abundance of symbols from the mythology of different countries in the works, one can speak of a collage of statements. The only thing that is a sign of their age is the author’s extraordinary seriousness to the chosen topics, which is not typical of our time, when artists use post irony and contexts from all over the world, borrowing everything that comes to hand, deforming the space of works and their meanings to the limit, as if testing the viewer. Often this method is implemented by transferring ordinary objects into the gallery space. Some even use the work of other authors to create their own statements. This exhibition is no exception.
