Violetta Terlyga «Important things»

Violetta Terlyga is from Mariupol, now lives and works in Kharkiv. An important role in her art is played by dolls, which are the main characters of “Important Things”.

In ancient times, religiosity arose around things that were incomprehensible, inexplicable by scientific knowledge. Being in ignorance, a person did not try to unravel the interconnection of phenomena but narrowed the whole world around him to superstition.

If a child needs only to be distracted by his favorite toys to calm down, then what can an adult who is in general confusion and panic cling to today? And here, like many thousands of years ago, religion comes to the rescue. It turned out to be easier for religious people and sincere believers in the Divine plan to survive the days of general turbulence, panic, and fear than for all other materialists tearing their hair out. The time of trials, even more, grew faith in the immortality of the soul, hope for salvation, and love for one’s neighbors, so that the once faded haloes again sparkled with renewed vigor, again became miraculous.
